NEW THX ULTRA2 PRODUCTS DEBUT AT CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW
LAS VEGAS, January 8, 2002 - The roster of THX® ULTRA 2 products is growing, with new entries from THX licensees making
their debut at this month’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
Two THX Ultra2 controllers — the Stage One Controller from Aragon and the FMJ-AV8 from Arcam — are new at CES. Aragon is
also announcing five THX Ultra2 amplifiers — the 2007, a seven-channel model; the 2005 and 3005, both five-channel amplifiers;
and the 2002 and 3002 two-channel amps. One new THX Ultra2 receiver makes its debut, the Denon AVR-5803. The new
products join two existing Pioneer Elite THX Ultra2 products, the VSX-49TX and VSX-47TX receivers, introduced this past Fall. In
addition, Snell Acoustics has announced plans to offer a THX Ultra2 home theater speaker system comprised of the XA1900
LCRs, the AMC900 in-wall dipole surrounds, and the ICS Sub24, a dual 12-inch powered subwoofer.
Stephen Baker, Denon Vice President of Sales and Marketing noted: "Denon engineered its new AVR-5803 A/V Surround
Receiver to set a new reference standard for performance in A/V components. As such, we considered it essential to incorporate
THX Ultra2 processing into the AVR-5803, as part of our design mandate to offer the ultimate surround sound performance and
sonic realism."
"The THX Ultra2 Spec is a major breakthrough for the home theater enthusiast who appreciates accurate home theater sound
reproduction when a 5.1 source is played through a 7.1 speaker system," said David Bales, Marketing Manger, Pioneer/Pioneer
Elite Audio. "THX Ultra 2 provides a way for that customer to set-up the optimum Surround EX or ES system and never have to
worry about how the source was recorded. Pioneer’s goal is to provide the most accurate and easy to use home theater products.
THX Ultra 2 has made our job that much easier.
The recently introduced THX ULTRA 2 specification is the new reference standard in home entertainment performance quality. It
provides uncompromised playback of any multi-channel program, whether movie soundtrack or music, over the widest possible
seating area. In addition, all Ultra2 controllers and receivers incorporate video switching capable of handling all wide-bandwidth
sources, including HDTV and progressive scan DVD, without degrading the picture.
"The response to THX Ultra2 has been overwhelmingly positive," said Mark Paddack, Director of Licensing, Lucasfilm THX
Consumer Division. "Licensees enthusiastically agree that it realizes optimal playback for music as well as movies, and that the
technology allows THX Ultra2 components to easily accommodate current and future multi-channel formats.
